For the past 10 years, the Town of Truckee has undertaken a number of planning efforts and collaborated with local citizens, Town staff, and Town officials to establish a plan for the Railyard and the downtown area. In 2004, the Town formed a partnership with Holliday Development to prepare a formal plan for the Railyard Area.

In 2009, with overwhelming support from local residents, the Planning Commission and Town Council unanimously approved the Truckee Railyard Master Plan, making way for the revitalization of the Railyard.  The Railyard will now create downtown living opportunities in a pedestrian friendly manner that incorporates workforce housing, civic, entertainment, and commercial uses.  The objectives of the plan include:

• Invest in Downtown Truckee
• Strengthen the Local Economy
• Create a Sustainable Plan for the Future
• Create more Downtown Housing Opportunities
